Chinese language week

silver reflection enviro day

On Thursday Kauri and Kirsty came to our school to see if we were a silver enviro school. In the morning we had a welcome for them under the Wahi Nui. We played some of our kapa haka songs. The boys did the haka. It sounded like thunder and lighting. BANG BANG! Went there feet on the cold concrete. And then we sang hallelujah in maori. Then Kuwaiti and te waka. After we had the welcoming then we got into reusing the things we did not want any more. We made dream catchers out of old cd's, pirate ships out of egg cartons. We made little animals out of old bottles. And then we put our beans in the old bottles. We also made bird feeders for the birds. MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH. After lunch we had miss gardner bring in some toitoi. Some of us got to make manu tukutuku the maori kite. Well it was like a smaller size. Some of us did not get to do it. They were too busy making dream catchers and pirate ships. The teacher made a really fantastic kite. Well we were making the kites Kauir and Kirsty came in with the Enviro team. They started to look at our waka with our five guiding principles on our waka. Miss Hickling then Told us to go to the mat. Kauir and Kirsty started to ask us questions about the five Guiding principles. After that the class was a pig sty. We were busy little bees on thursday. The next day our teacher told us that we did not get silver we hopped over like a bunny and got GREEN GOLD!

Classification
Bees belong to the hymenoptera family. The hymenoptera family is a large order of insects. There is also another family that bees are from it’s the Apidae family. The Apidae family is the largest family within the superfamily.

Description. Bees have five eyes, three simple little eyes at the center of the head  and two large black compound eyes at the side of the head. They also have pollen baskets, one on each leg they collect the pollen when they fly over a flower and it spreads pollen from flower to flower. Bees are yellow and black because it’s a warning to other insects that it’s dangerous. Bees are dangerous because they have stingers that inject  venom into the Enemies  body so they can protect itself. But a few moments later the the bee will die because it’s organs come out.

Location.Bees are found all over the world but the first place bees were found was in Europe 35 million years ago. The country with the most bees is India with 12 million beehives. Within the bee’s natural habits bees build their nests in howell trees and under edge objects so they can hide himself from predators.

Dynamics.Honey bees collect nectar and pollen when they fly over a flower. The pollen attaches to the hairs on the bees legs and placed on to another flower. The bee then sucks up all the nectar from the flower and the nectar is stored in the stomach of a bee. The nectar in the bees stomach gets covered with saliva and passed on to another bee so it can turn into honey. Then beekeepers make honey and store them in shops for us to eat.
